Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Fighters Table
From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring divine entities, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Revealing details for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 concluded with a huge suspense moment and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and Kattigan (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the hidden lair, attacking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then settled his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the region and advises that it is a hostile place.
- The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- However, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the group reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.
Viewers can expect finding out which players will be where in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
